8th APRIL - Eco Social Work & Psychology

Shirley Gleeson

"Ecosocial work: How the natural world can support communities in times of stress and adversity"

Never have we needed nature so much to help keep us well, lift our spirits and nourish our souls. We are faced with unprecedented times, where grief and loss is all around us. We need to understand the healing power of the natural world and its potential to support individuals, families and communities during and after this crisis. However, this must be a reciprocal relationship. We also need to respect and cherish the natural world which we are part of. Beauty, compassion and meaning, three of the nature connection pathways developed by Lumber et al at the University of Derby are key in understanding how nature can support us in times of need. The concept of nature and post traumatic growth will also be discussed as crisis can also be an opportunity for deep reflection, enhanced awareness and much needed transformation.

psychological suffering is closely related to the ability to develop emotional resilience.

Through Forest Bathing walks, the forest, therefore, appears as a stage of learning and experimentation for the construction of new forms of otional life.

How aware are you about the importance of self care, the effects of attentive observation, the power of bonding and the benefits of stepping out of your comfort zone?

Corporate wellbeing is mainly divided into three fields: nutrition, fitness and meditation. Living a holistic lifestyle requires a mind shift thus leading to behavior change. It all starts with self-awareness. Nature is man’s best partner to experience awe and to enhance awareness and group cohesion. It’s all there, it only needs to be unlocked.

Understanding our VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world is crucial to fulfill the needs or solve the problems of your customer. In times of crises, like Corona, marketing is more easy because problems become clearer. The time is right to listen carefully and experiment with health promotion in teams and organizations.
